Recently, we have written a number of articles on the benefits of walking and given you some ideas on walking group names, but you may be asking yourself how many calories do I burn walking, especially if you have the goal of losing weight this year.
As with many things, it depends on a number of factors including your weight, the distance walked, your speed, the angle of the ground, and even your metabolism.
So how many calories do you actually burn walking? While it is almost impossible to get an exact figure without serious equipment, there are ways to get a rough estimate.

Todd:
This is the most controversial post ever on doingterrific.com that has almost put a halt to this site and my friendship with Will, and it all comes down to one thing: how to cook boiled eggs. It is not uncommon for the topic of how to cook boiled eggs to tear apart lives, and Will and I are not immune to this. I am strongly in disagreement with Will’s method of cooking boiled eggs, which follows below (his instructions start where it says “To hard boil an egg…”):

Walking can be a great way to stay healthy, clear your mind, or even notice something new in your own neighborhood.
Walking is a great way to stay healthy.
To gain the maximum health benefits of walking, a minimum period of 30 to 60 minutes for 5 days a week is recommended, but less time is still beneficial. This might seem like a lot, but usually we all take care of this through our daily routines. If you add in a leisurely walk after work, you can easily meet this goal. Walking can reduce the chances of cancer, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, anxiety or depression.

Well, I have completed my goal of 30 days straight of meditation! This is the longest I have ever meditated consistently. It helped that I had some more free time in my life.
These last 10 days I meditated anywhere from 15 minutes up to an hour.
As far as changes, I still haven’t seen anything drastic, but just a better awareness of my thoughts. I am going to continue meditating each day, and I am hoping this is now ingrained as a habit. They say meditation can take a lot longer to see results.

For those who have read my previous posts, I have set out to meditate for a consistent 30 days at a minimum. I have reached my 20th day, and this is the longest I have ever consistently meditated.
As far as changes to my mental state, it is still very early, but I do notice that I am more aware of my thinking and whether I am worrying or not. Normally, I worry without being able to step back from the worry itself, but I do notice some more control at this point.

Well, it has been 10 days since I started my meditation experiment, and everything is going as planned. I have been meditating a minimum of 15 minutes and going up to 30 minutes on days that I have had more time.
I haven’t noticed any real changes so far, but I have read that meditation is not a quick fix, and that it can take 4-6 weeks before any results can be seen. I have also read that even greater results can be seen over time.
